Episode Twenty-One: Banff Ice Diver 1.

During a training dive under ice, I experienced a free flow regulator! This causes the air in my tank to rapidly flow out. The problem with ice diving and running out of air, you can’t just go straight up, you need to get back to the hole in the ice! Also in this episode: Jenny gets flooded and almost becomes a hypothermia causality. Lots of lessons to learn on this one.

After a great weekend of training, Jenny and I finally complete the PADI Ice Diver certification! Now we will be able to dive year round in Yellowknife! That is – if we can get through the 5 feet of ice!

After spending the morning cutting through the 5 feet of ice, we finally are ready to get into the water and get diving. This was our FIRST winter ice dive in Yellowknife!!! The under ice diving was AMAZING. The ice was so clear (and thick). The sediment was down and the lake was the clearest I have ever seen! And yeah, we found my buddy’s gopro!
